We are excited to tell you about our new feature called hype factor. It has been live since yesterday and we think it is working working fantastically. It's a good addition to our global feeling indicator and these two indicators together tell you now a lot more about different topics. To make it clear, I start by telling the difference between these two indicators.
Global feeling tells you about the sentiment of the topic on a scale from 0 to 5 where 0 means extremely negative, 5 means extremely positive and 2,5 means neutral. Global feeling is a useful indicator, but the small drawback is that it doesn't tell you anything about the volume of the discussion. That's why we launchedthe hype factor.
Hype factor describes both the volume and sentiment of the discussion. The higher the number is, the more positive and active the discussion about the topic is. There is no upper limit. The formula of hype factor is not a secret:
hype factor = ("global feeling of last 24 hours" - 2,5) x "volume of posts during the last 24 hours"
As you can see, hype factor is positive only if the sentiment of the topic is positive. After that, the volume of posts make the difference. Hype factor helps us to spot even better the topics that are suddenly getting a lot of negative or positive attention. That's also why we decided to use hype factor in the Bullish & Bearish list on our front page.
What do you think about it?
